I got a letter from our Auto Insurance company today that advised that I needed to opt for either the Limited Torte Option or the Full Torte Option for our auto insurance coverage. In my opinion this falls within the scope of the statement that the only thing uncommon in the Pennsylvania government is common-sense.
Under the Full Torte Option, if some inattentive person runs a stop-sign and T-bones our car. We can sue for all damages including "Pain & Suffering". It is important to note at this point that the other driver was 100% at fault.
Under the Limited Torte Option, if the same inattentive person runs a stop-sign and T-bones our car. We can not sue for all damages including "Pain & Suffering". That driver was 100% at fault.
The difference in premiums for these two coverage options is staggering! The annualized difference in these two policy options is...$26.00.
So...the way I see it, in the interest of saving approximately $2.00 per month I have to opt out of my full rights under the law. REALLY?
Or...I guess I can take a more cynical view of the matter and say I have to pay extra to have full access to my Civil Rights!
